namo guru
་མ་ མས་དང་ ་དམ་ད ལ་འ ར་ ། ། གས་བ ་ ས་ག མ་ ལ་བ་ ས་དང་བཅས། །
lama nam dang yidam kyilkhor lha chok chu dü sum gyalwa sé dangché
NAMO GURU
Gurus, yidams of all maṇḍalas, and buddhas and bodhisattvas of the ten directions and three times:
བདག་ལ་བ ར་ད ངས་བདག་ ་ ན་ལམ་ མས། ། ་བ ན་འ བ་པ ་མ ན་འ ར་ ན་ བས་མ ད། །
dak la tser gong dak gi mönlam nam ji shyin drubpé tün gyur jinlab dzö
Kindly consider me. Support and bless the ful llment of my aspirations.
The Aspiration of the Mahāmudrā of De nitive Meaning 1
བདག་དང་མཐའ་ཡས་ མས་ཅན་ཐམས་ཅད་ ། །བསམ་ ར་ མ་དག་གངས་ ་ལས་ ས་པ ། །
dak dang tayé semchen tamché kyi samjor namdak gangri lé kyepé
Streams of virtue unsullied by threefold xation are born on the snow-covered mountain
འ ར་ག མ་ ག་ ད་ད ་ གས་ ་ ན་ མས། ། ལ་བ་ ་བ ་ ་མ ར་འ ག་ ར་ ག །
khor sum nyokmé gé tsok chu gyün nam gyalwa ku shyi gyatsor juk gyur chik
Of the pure intentions and actions of myself and all innumerable beings. May they ow into the ocean of the buddhas’ four kāyas.
་ ད་ ་མ་ བ་པ་ ་ ད་ ། ། ་དང་ ་བ་ ་རབས་ ན་ ་ཡང་། །
jisi dé matobpa desi du kyé dang kyewa tserab küntu yang
Until that is attained, throughout all births, all lives, may even the words “wrongdoing” and “suffering”
ག་དང་ ག་བ ལ་ ་ཡང་ ་ ག་ ང་། །བ ་ད ་ ་མ ་དཔལ་ལ་ ད་པར་ ག །
dik dang dukngal dra yang mi drak ching dé gé gyatsö pal la chöpar shok
Be unheard. May we enjoy the splendor of an ocean of happiness and virtue.
The Aspiration of the Mahāmudrā of De nitive Meaning 2
�། །དལ་འ ར་མ ག་ བ་དད་བ ན་ ས་རབ་ ན། །བ ས་ག ན་བཟང་བ ན་གདམས་པ ་བ ད་ བ་ནས། །
daljor chok tob dé tsön sherab den shenyen zang ten dampé chü tob né
Acquiring the best leisure and resources, may we have faith, diligence, and wisdom. Relying upon good spiritual friends and receiving the essence of the instructions,
ལ་བ ན་བ བ་ལ་བར་ཆད་མ་མ ས་པར། ། ་རབས་ ན་ ་དམ་ ས་ ད་པར་ ག །
tsul shyin drub la barché machipar tserab küntu damchö chöpar shok
May we practive them properly without obstacle. In all our lives, may we practice genuine dharma.
ང་ ག་ ས་པས་ ་ ས་ བ་ལས་ ལ། །མན་ངག་བསམ་པས་ ་ མ་ ན་ནག་བ མ། །
lung rik töpé mi shé drib lé drol mengak sampé tetsom münnak chom
Hearing scripture and reasoning frees from unknowing. Contemplating the instructions conquers the darkness of doubt.
མ་ ང་ ད་ ས་གནས་ གས་ ་བ ན་གསལ། ། ས་རབ་ག མ་ག ་ ང་བ་ ས་པར་ ག །
gom jung ö kyi neluk ji shyin sal sherab sum gyi nangwa gyepar shok
The light of meditation clearly reveals the nature as it is. May the brilliance of the three wisdoms increase.
The Aspiration of the Mahāmudrā of De nitive Meaning 3
ག་ཆད་མཐའ་ ལ་བ ན་ག ས་ག ་ ་ ན། ། ་ ར་མཐའ་ ལ་ གས་ག ས་ལམ་མ ག་ ས། །
takché tadral den nyi shyi yi dön drokur tadral tsok nyi lam chok gi
The ground is the two truths, beyond the extremes of eternalism and nihilism. Through the supreme path of the two accumulations, beyond the extremes of exaggeration and denial,
ད་ ་མཐའ་ ལ་ ན་ག ས་འ ས་ བ་པ ། ། ལ་འ ག་ ད་པ ་ ས་དང་ ད་པར་ ག །
si shyi tadral dön nyi dré tobpé gol chuk mepé chö dang trepar shok
The fruition, the two bene ts, beyond the extremes of saṃsāra and nirvāṇa, is attained. May we encounter dharma free from error and deviation.
ང་ག ་ མས་ ད་གསལ་ ང་ ང་འ ག་ལ། ། ང་ ད་ ག་ ན་ ་ ་ ལ་འ ར་ ས། །
jang shyi semnyi saltong zungjuk la jongjé chakchen dorje naljor ché
The ground of puri cation is the mind’s nature, a union of lucidity-emptiness. What puri es is the great vajra yoga of mahāmudrā.

�། ། ང་ ་ ་ ར་འ ལ་པ ་ ་མ་ མས། ། ངས་འ ས་ ་ ལ་ ས་ ་མ ན་འ ར་ ག །
jangja lobur trulpé drima nam jang dré dridral chöku ngön gyur shok
What is puri ed is the stains of adventitious delusion. May the result of puri cation, the stainless dharmakāya, be revealed.
ག ་ལ་ ་འ གས་ ད་པ་ ་བ ་ག ངས། ། ་ལ་མ་ ངས་ ང་བ་ མ་པ ་གནད། །
shyi la dro dok chöpa tawé deng dé la ma yeng kyongwa gompé né
Severing misconceptions of the ground is certainty of the view. Sustaining that without distraction is the point of meditation.
མ་ ན་ ན་ལ་ ལ་ ང་ ད་པ ་མ ག ། ་ མ་ ད་པ ་ག ང་དང་ ན་པར་ ག །
gom dön kün la tsal jong chöpé chok ta gom chöpé deng dang denpar shok
Training in all aspects of meditation is the best action. May we have the con dence of the view, meditation, and action.
The Aspiration of the Mahāmudrā of De nitive Meaning 5
ས་ མས་ཐམས་ཅད་ མས་ ་ མ་འ ལ་ ། ། མས་ ་ མས་ ད་ མས་ ་ ་ ས་ ང་། །
chö nam tamché sem kyi namtrul té sem ni sem mé sem kyi ngowö tong
All dharmas are the mind’s manifestations. The mind: there is no mind; it is empty of mind’s essence.
ང་ ང་མ་འགགས་ ར་ཡང་ ང་བ་ ། ། གས་པར་བ ག་ནས་ག ་ ་ ད་པར་ ག །
tong shying magak chiryang nangwa té lekpar tak né shyi tsa chöpar shok
Empty, it is unceasing, and can appear as anything. Having scrutinized it, may we nd it.
ད་མ་ ང་བ ་རང་ ང་ ལ་ ་འ ལ། །མ་ ག་དབང་ ས་རང་ ག་བདག་ ་འ ལ། །
yö ma nyongwé rangnang yul du trul marik wang gi rangrig dak tu trul
We mistake self-appearance, which has never existed, to be an object. Under ignorance’s power, we mistake self-awareness to be a self.
ག ས་འ ན་དབང་ ས་ ད་པ ་ ང་ ་འ མས། །མ་ ག་འ ལ་པ ་ ད་དར་ ད་པར་ ག །
nyidzin wang gi sipé long du khyam marik trulpé tsé dar chöpar shok
Under the power of dualistic xation, we wander in the expanse of saṃsāra. May we get to the bottom of ignorance and delusion.

�། ། ད་པ་མ་ ན་ ལ་བས་ ང་མ་གཟ གས། ། ད་པ་མ་ ན་འ ར་འདས་ ན་ག ་ག ། །
yöpa mayin gyalwé kyang ma zik mepa mayin khordé kün gyi shyi
Not something, it is not seen even by buddhas. Not nothing, it is the ground of all saṃsāra and nirvāṇa.
འགལ་འ ་མ་ ན་ ང་འ ག་ད ་མ ་ལམ། །མཐའ་ ལ་ མས་ ་ ས་ ད་ གས་པར་ ག །
galdu mayin zungjuk umé lam tadral sem kyi chönyi tokpar shok
This is not a contradiction; it is unity, the middle way. May we realize the mind’s nature, beyond extremes.
འ ་ ན་ ས་པ་གང་ ས་མ ན་པ་ ད། །འ ་ ན་ ས་ ་གང་ ས་བཀག་པ་ ད། །
di yin shyepa gang gi tsönpamé di min shyeja gang gi kakpamé
Nothing indicates this, saying, “It is this.” Nothing negates this, saying, “It is not this.”
་ལས་འདས་པ ་ ས་ ད་འ ས་མ་ ས། །ཡང་དག་ ན་ག ་མཐའ་ ་ ས་པར་ ག །
lo lé depé chönyi dümajé yangdak dön gyi ta ni ngepar shok
Beyond the intellect, dharmatā is not composite. May we realize the perfect, ultimate truth,

འ ་ ད་མ་ གས་འ ར་བ ་ ་མ ར་འ ར། །འ ་ ད་ གས་ན་སངས་ ས་གཞན་ན་ ད། །
di nyi ma tok khorwé gyatsor khor di nyi tok na sangye shyen namé
Not realizing this, we circle in the ocean of saṃsāra. If this is realized, buddha is not elsewhere.
ཐམས་ཅད་འ ་ ན་འ ་ ན་གང་ཡང་ ད། ། ས་ ད་ ན་ག ་མཚང་ ་ ག་པར་ ག །
tamché di yin di min gangyang mé chönyi kün shyi tsang ni rigpar shok
Everything is this; there is nothing that is not this. May we know dharmatā, exposing the all-basis.
ང་ཡང་ མས་ལ་ ང་ཡང་ མས་ ན་ ། ། གས་ ང་ མས་ལ་འ ལ་ཡང་རང་ ་ མས། །
nang yang sem la tong yang sem yin té tok kyang sem la trul yang rang gi sem
Appearances are mind; emptiness is also mind. Realization is mind; delusion is our own mind too.
ས་ ང་ མས་ལ་འགགས་ ང་ མས་ ན་པས། ། ་འ གས་ཐམས་ཅད་ མས་ལ་ ད་པར་ ག །
kyé kyang sem la gak kyang sem yinpé dro dok tamché sem la chöpar shok
Arisen, it’s mind; stopped, it’s also mind. May we sever all misconceptions in the mind.
The Aspiration of the Mahāmudrā of De nitive Meaning 8
�། ། ས་ ས་ ལ་བ ་ མ་ག ས་མ་བ ད་ ང་། །ཐ་མལ་འ ་འ ་ ང་ ས་མ་བ ད་པར། །
löjé tsolwé gom gyi ma lé ching tamal dudzi lung gi makyöpar
Not sullied by the meditation that is conceptual effort, nor stirred by the wind of ordinary distractions,
མ་བ ས་ག ག་མ་རང་བབ་འ ག་ ས་པ ། ། མས་ ན་ཉམས་ ན་མཁས་ ང་ ང་བར་ ག །
machö nyukma rangbab jok shepé sem dön nyamlen khé shing kyongwar shok
May we know how to rest naturally and freely, not altering. May we be skilled in and sustain the practice of the mind.
་རག་ གས་པ ་དབའ་ བས་རང་སར་ ། །ག ་ ད་ མས་ ་ ་ ་ངང་ ས་གནས། །
tra rak tokpé balab rang sar shyi yomé sem kyi chuwo ngang gi né
May the subtle and coarse waves of thought be naturally calmed. May the river of mind, unmoving, come to natural rest.
ང་ གས་ ག་པ ་ ་མ་དང་ ལ་བ ། ། ་གནས་ ་མ ་ ་ག ་བ ན་པར་ ག །
jing muk nyokpé drima dang dralwé shyiné gyatso mi yo tenpar shok
Free from the polluting stains of torpor and dullness, may the ocean of śamatha be unmovingly stable.
The Aspiration of the Mahāmudrā of De nitive Meaning 9
བ ར་ ད་ མས་ལ་ཡང་ཡང་བ ས་པ ་ ། །མ ང་ ད་ ན་ ་ ་བ ན་ ག་ ར་མ ང་། །
tarmé sem la yangyang tepé tsé tongmé dön ni ji shyin lhak ger tong
When looking again and again at the mind, which has nothing to look at, nothing to see is vividly seen as it is.
ན་ ན་ ན་ལ་ ་ མ་ ད་པ་ ད། འ ལ་ ད་རང་ ་རང་ ས་ ས་པར་ ག །
yin min dön la tetsom chöpa nyi trulmé rang ngo rang gi shepar shok
That is the resolution of doubts about what it is and is not. Without delusion, may we recognize our own nature.
ལ་ལ་བ ས་པས་ ལ་ ད་ མས་ ་མ ང་། ། མས་ལ་བ ས་པས་ མས་ ད་ ་ ས་ ང་། །
yul la tepé yulmé sem su tong sem la tepé semmé ngowö tong
Looking at objects, there are no objects; they are seen as mind. Looking at the mind, there is no mind; it is empty of nature.
ག ས་ལ་བ ས་པས་ག ས་འ ན་རང་སར་ ལ། ། ད་གསལ་ མས་ ་གནས་ གས་ གས་པར་ ག །
nyi la tepé nyidzin rang sar drol ösal sem kyi neluk tokpar shok
Looking at both, dualism is liberated in its own place. May we realize the clear light, the mind’s nature.
The Aspiration of the Mahāmudrā of De nitive Meaning 10
�། ། ད་ ད་ ལ་བ་འ ་ ་ ག་ ་ ། །མཐའ་དང་ ལ་བ་ད ་མ་ ན་ ་ ན། །
yi jé dralwa di ni chakgya ché ta dang dralwa uma chenpo yin
This freedom from mental engagement is mahāmudrā. Beyond extremes, it is the great middle way.
འ ་ ་ ན་འ ས་ གས་ ན་ ས་ ང་ ། །ག ག་ ས་ ན་ ན་ གས་པ ་ག ང་ བ་ ག །
di ni kündü dzogchen shyé kyangja chik shé kün dön tokpé deng tob shok
As it includes everything, it is also called the great perfection. May we gain the con dence that to know one is to realize the meaning of all.
ན་པ་ ད་པ ་བ ་ ན་ ན་ཆད་ ད། །མཚན་འ ན་ ད་པ ་ ད་གསལ་ བ་ག ག་ ལ། །
shyenpa mepé dechen gyünché mé tsen dzin mepé ösal drib yokdral
Unceasing great bliss without attachment; the unveiled clear light, free from conception;
་ལས་འདས་པ ་ ་ ག་ ན་ག ས་ བ། ། ལ་ ད་ཉམས་ ང་ ན་ཆད་ ད་པར་ ག །
lo lé depé mi tok lhün gyi drub tsolmé nyam nyong gyünché mepar shok
And spontaneously present freedom from thought, beyond the intellect: may effortless experiences be unceasing.
The Aspiration of the Mahāmudrā of De nitive Meaning 11
བཟང་ ན་ཉམས་ ་འ ན་པ་རང་སར་ ལ། །ངན་ ག་འ ལ་པ་རང་བ ན་ད ངས་ ་དག །
zang shyen nyam kyi dzinpa rang sar drol ngen tok trulpa rang shyin ying su dak
May clinging to experiences as good be naturally liberated. May the delusion of thoughts being bad be puri ed in the expanse.
ཐ་མལ་ ས་པ་ ང་ ང་ ལ་ བ་ ད། ། ས་ ལ་ ས་ ད་བ ན་པ་ གས་པར་ ག །
tamal shepa panglang dral tobmé trödral chönyi denpa tokpar shok
May ordinary mind, with nothing to remove or add, to lose or gain, unelaborate, the truth of dharmatā, be realized.
འ ་བ ་རང་བ ན་ ག་ ་སངས་ ས་ ང་། །མ་ གས་དབང་ ས་མཐའ་ ད་འ ར་བར་འ མས། །
drowé rang shyin taktu sangye kyang ma tok wang gi tamé khorwar khyam
Although beings’ nature is always buddha, not realizing it, we wander in endless saṃsāra.
ག་བ ལ་ ་མཐའ་ ད་པ ་ མས་ཅན་ལ། །བ ད་ ད་ ང་ ་ ད་ལ་ ་བར་ ག །
dukngal muta mepé semchen la zömé nyingjé gyü la kyewar shok
May unbearable compassion arise in us for all beings who suffer endlessly.
The Aspiration of the Mahāmudrā of De nitive Meaning 12
�། །བ ད་ ད་ ང་ ་ ལ་ཡང་མ་འགགས་པ ། །བ ་ ས་ ་ ་ ང་ ན་ ན་པར་ཤར།
zömé nyingjé tsal yang magakpé tsé dü ngowo tong dön jenpar shar
The display of unbearable compassion is unceasing. Within that affection, its empty nature arises nakedly.
ང་འ ག་ ལ་ས་ ལ་བ ་ལམ་མ ག་འ ། །འ ལ་ ད་ ན་མཚན་ ན་ ་ མ་པར་ ག །
zungjuk golsa dralwé lam chok di dralmé nyin tsen küntu gompar shok
May we cultivate this integrated path without error constantly throughout day and night.
མ་ བས་ལས་ ང་ ན་དང་མ ན་ ས་དང་། ། མས་ཅན་ ན་ ས་སངས་ ས་ ང་རབ་ ངས། །
gom tob lé jung chen dang ngönshé dang semchen min jé sangye shying rab jang
The eyes and clairvoyances produced by meditation; the ripening of beings; the puri cation of buddha realms;
སངས་ ས་ ས་ མས་འ བ་པ ་ ན་ལམ་ གས། ། གས་ ན་ ངས་ག མ་མཐར་ ན་སངས་ ས་ ག །
sangye chö nam drubpé mönlam dzok dzok min jang sum tarchin sangye shok
And the completion of aspiration to the buddhas’ qualities: may we perfect completion, ripening, and puri cation, achieving buddhahood.

གས་བ ་ ལ་བ་ ས་བཅས་ གས་ ་དང་། ། མ་དཀར་ད ་བ་ ་ ད་ ད་པ ་མ ས། །
chok chü gyalwa sé ché tukjé dang namkar gewa jinyé yöpé tü
Through the compassion of the buddhas and bodhisattvas of the ten directions, and the power of whatever pure virtue there is,
་ ར་བདག་དང་ མས་ཅན་ཐམས་ཅད་ ། ། ན་ལམ་ མ་དག་ ་བ ན་འ བ་ ར་ ག །
detar dak dang semchen tamché kyi mönlam namdak ji shyin drub gyur chik
May the pure aspiration of myself and all beings be ful lled in accord with our intentions.
ས་ ་རང་ ང་ ་ ས་མཛད་པ །། །།
